FAQ

How do credits work?

Every API call costs credits. You can see your balance in the dashboard.

Search 1 - 3 credits (+5 with include_answer) Fetch 1 credit per URL Extract 5 credits Research 25 credits

Adding include_answer to any search adds 5 credits.

What's the difference between Free tier and Pay-as-you-go?

Free tier · 1,000 credits/month for eligible GitHub accounts. Credits refresh monthly. All tools included.

Pay-as-you-go · Buy credits whenever you need them at $0.005 each. No monthly commitment. Credits never expire. All tools included.

Do unused credits roll over?

Free-tier monthly credits: No. They refresh to 1,000 each month; the previous month's unused free credits are not carried over.

Purchased credits: Yes. Credits you buy never expire and are tracked separately.

What happens when I run out of credits?

API calls will return a 402 error. You can buy more credits (pay-as-you-go) from the dashboard at any time.

Can free-tier users also buy credits?

Yes. You can top up at any time. Purchased credits are tracked separately from your monthly free credits and never expire. Free credits are spent first, so your purchased credits only get used after the monthly 1,000 runs out.

How does the free tier work?

Sign in with GitHub. Eligible accounts get 1,000 credits/month for free. All four tools (Search, Fetch, Extract, Research) are included.

Email sign-ups start on pay-as-you-go with 0 credits.

What if my API key is leaked?

Go to the dashboard and click Regenerate on your API key. The old key stops working immediately. Your account and credits are safe. API keys can only make API calls, they cannot access your dashboard or change your account settings.

What is MCP?

MCP (Model Context Protocol) lets AI agents like Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex use Sofya tools directly. Copy the one-click setup from your dashboard to connect your agent. The agent gets search, fetch, extract, and research as tools. It never sees your API key.
